The County Assessor’s Office has taken steps to inform property owners of their property values and tax obligations. According to the office, property owners have until May 1 to protest the values listed in the Notice of Value that was sent out on April 1. County Assessor Eugenia “Gina” Montoya Ortega provided details on the protest process, stating that protests must be submitted in writing to the office's address in Las Cruces, NM.

In addition to protesting property values, taxpayers have the opportunity to apply for various exemptions. These exemptions include cases where property owners disagree with the valuation, have made improvements valued at over $10,000, declare their property as agricultural for the first time, or qualify for the head of family or veteran exemptions. Property owners seeking more information or wishing to protest their property's valuation can contact the Assessor’s Office directly at 575-647-7400.

To further assist property owners, the Assessor’s Office has arranged outreach locations on specific dates to provide in-person support. These outreach locations will be available for one day each at various community centers and offices. The schedule for the outreach locations is as follows:

- Betty McKnight Community Center, 190 County Line Road, Chaparral, on Monday, Apr. 8, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

- Anthony (South Valley) Community Center, 875 Anthony Drive, Anthony, on Tuesday, Apr. 9, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

- Sunland Park City Hall Council Chambers, 1000 McNutt Road, Suite A, Sunland Park, on Wednesday, Apr. 10, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

- Village of Hatch Clerk’s Office, 133 N. Franklin Street, Village of Hatch, on Thursday, Apr. 11, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Property owners are encouraged to take advantage of these outreach locations to address any concerns they may have regarding their property valuations and exemptions.
